When Sarah Mickel was four-years-old she watcher her father develop photographs, not realizing that photography would soon become her life passion.
Fast forward a decade, teenage Mickel picked up her first camera, built her own dark room and completely fell in love with capturing moments through still images.
Mickel, who is now a full-time photographer, was raised in Nelson B.C. and started out in the fashion world modeling in front of the camera. Mickel often paid more attention to what the photographers were doing, instead of smiling for the camera. Eventually, Mickel made the switch to behind the camera, capturing beautiful baby bumps and specializing in pregnancy photography.
The professionally trained photographer decided to collaborate with Missy MacKintosh, hair and makeup artist from Kelowna, to create a wintry spread for Okanagan Woman's fashion photoshoot. This amazing conception happened along the shores of Salmon Arm with the beautiful Paije Swanton in front of the lens.
Salmon Arm was chosen as the backdrop for this shoot because it provided the grey blues Mickel had envisioned. She was also able to overexpose the background to create a snowy look.
The clothing items for this shoot were crowdfunded by social media, including a jacket worn by Missy's mother in the 1980's.
