Missy Mackintosh, is a professionally trained make-up artist. She studied at Blanche McDonald in Vancouver and Make Up For Ever Academy, Paris.
In 8 simple steps, Missy will take us through the method she used to achieve this elegant and natural look for our lovely model Diane.
Starting with an eyelid primer, apply it from the lashline all the way up to the brow line. This creates a fresh canvas base and helps to keep the eye shadow in place and avoid it from creasing.
Using a shadow a shade lighter than your natural skin tone, pat lightly over the primer. This will set the primer and help with the blending of the eye shadows in the next steps.
TIP: BETTER TO USE MATTE SHADOW ON MATURE LIDS VERSUS SHINY SHADOWS AS SHINE WILL DRAW ATTENTION TO FINE LINES.
For the contour area and to give your eye depth, apply a darker shadow than in step 2, a medium taupe shade always works well.
Using a rounded brush, apply the shadow into the contour of your eyelid- where the natural fold of the eye is- starting from the outside of the eye and working our way in.
Blend the product up to where the brow bone starts and tapering it off toward the inner corner of the eye.
Take a finer brush with the same darker colour shadow and apply it lightly to the lower lash line, using a press and pull down method.
With this method you are applying the product and blending it at the same time.
TIP: AVOID USING LINER ON THE BOTTOM AS IT CAN DRAW ATTENTION TO ANY DARK CIRCLES OR BAGS UNDER THE EYES.
Using the finer brush again, apply a very light pink highlight to the inner corner of the eye.
This emphasizes the brightness of the eye.
NOW FOR A POP OF COLOUR!
For our eyeliner we’ve used the 2018 colour of the year, ultra violet. Apply the liner to the top lash line, getting as close to the lashes as possible. Having fun with liner is an exciting way to wear a pop of colour.
TIP: APPLY A VERY FINE LINE FOR DAYTIME AND TRY A THICKER LINE FOR EVENINGS- BE AS DARING AS YOU LIKE!
The mascara. Applying mascara is an important step, we want our lashes to look as full as possible, but we don’t want to look like a spider just crawled onto our lids, so start by wiggling the brush into the base of the lashes and pulling through to the tips.
Then apply nice long strokes, from base to tip, coating every lash. I like to lightly sweep the mascara wand over the lower lashes also, but there is no right or wrong here, your preference!
We paired our elegant soft eye look with a subtle pink gloss for our model. Gloss creates the illusion of fuller lips and will give light reflection and brightness to the face.
TIP: IF YOU ARE HESITANT TO CHOOSE GLOSS FOR FEAR OF BLEEDING, THERE ARE MANY CLEAR LIP LINERS ON THE MARKET TO HELP KEEP YOUR LIP GLOSS IN PLACE.
Perfect for mothers day, easter with the family or that special date with your special someone!
